The Naomhóg is a traditional rowing vessel made from wood, tar and canvas. This image depicts a Naomhóg being carried out to sea, they were used as traditional fishing boats by the Blasket Island fishermen and as a way of transport from the island to the main land. I inscribed the image onto porcelain paper clay and then brushed it using a number of oxides, it was then fired to 1260 degrees Celsius.
This piece would make a lovely gift for anyone with Irish connections, especially to the Dingle Peninsula or for someone that has a love for Ireland and it’s history.
